Are you searching for a healing miracle? If you are, keep reading for the five verses to pray when you need a miracle.
Uncovering Miracles
The truth is, many of us are searching for healing in some capacity. Some of us are looking for physical healing, while others are searching for a mending of the soul.
If you have been following my blog for some time, you will know that one of my favorite verses is John 14:12: “I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father, (NLT).” When it comes to that verse, I take take it literally! Although many theologians have disputed that actually meaning of John 14:12, I believe that our generation has the capacity to do miraculous wonders.
So what exactly were some of the miracles that Jesus performed? According to Matthew 11:5-7, throughout Jesus’s time on Earth, the blind saw; the lame walked; the lepers were cleansed; the deaf heard; the dead were raised up and the poor had the gospel preached to them. I believe that John 14:12 promises that we too can do the same.
Before we continue, we must understand one thing. Without God, we are nothing and we can do nothing. We are merely the vessel for His miracles. Moreover, we are not the curator of miracles. However, as His vessels, God can and will use us to perform wonders. This brings me to another one of my favorite verses: Psalm 27:13.
Psalms 27:13
In Psalms 27:13, David said, “I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.” This means that we should have an expectation to receive goodness in this life as well as the next. Unfortunately, Christians have often resigned to living a life of despair where their only hope is in the afterlife. Arguably, that stance is unhealthy. More importantly, it’s also theologically inaccurate.
Chronicle Your Miracle
Our faith has provided us with the currency necessary to receive healing. Today, if you are yearning for a physical or spiritual healing (a move of God in your life), meditate on the following verses (and passages) and petition God to move favorably on your behalf. In fact, I challenge you to keep a journal of your prayers. Watch and see how God moves in the next few days, weeks or months.
Five Verses to Pray When You Need a Miracle
Verses to Pray #1: Acts 2:17-18, NIV
17 “‘In the last days, God says,
I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your young men will see visions,
your old men will dream dreams.
18 Even on my servants, both men and women,
I will pour out my Spirit in those days,
and they will prophesy.
Prayers: God, please pour out your spirit on me as in the book of Acts.
Verses to Pray #2: James 5:14-16, KJV
14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:
15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.
16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
Prayer 2: God heal me, forgive my sins and grant me favor.
Verses to Pray #3: Luke 8:43-48, NLT
43 A woman in the crowd had suffered for twelve years with constant bleeding, and she could find no cure. 44 Coming up behind Jesus, she touched the fringe of his robe. Immediately, the bleeding stopped.
45 “Who touched me?” Jesus asked.
Everyone denied it, and Peter said, “Master, this whole crowd is pressing up against you.”
46 But Jesus said, “Someone deliberately touched me, for I felt healing power go out from me.” 47 When the woman realized that she could not stay hidden, she began to tremble and fell to her knees in front of him. The whole crowd heard her explain why she had touched him and that she had been immediately healed. 48 “Daughter,” he said to her, “your faith has made you well. Go in peace.”
Prayer 3: God heal me like the woman with the issue of blood.
Verses to Pray #4: 2 King 20:5-6
5 ‘Go back and tell Hezekiah, the ruler of my people, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of your father David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will heal you. On the third day from now you will go up to the temple of the Lord. 6 I will add fifteen years to your life. And I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria. I will defend this city for my sake and for the sake of my servant David.’
Prayer 4: God, add years to my life as you did for your servant Hezekiah.
Verses to Pray #5: Jeremiah 17:14, NLT
O LORD, if you heal me, I will be truly healed; if you save me, I will be truly saved. My praises are for you alone!
Prayer 5: God heal me in all aspects of my life: physically, spiritually, emotionally, financially and personally.
Mitigating Disappointment
I believe that if we meditate on these five verses to pray over the next few weeks, God will show up and do miraculous things. However, we must acknowledge that despite God’s ability to move, some times He doesn’t. So, what do we do then? In those instances, we must simply trust Him. While that might seem counter intuitive, that is what we must do. That is what David did.
When David and Bathsheba’s first born son fell ill, David pleaded with God for the boy’s recovery. For seven days, David wept, fasted, and refused to eat as he prayed for the child’s life. Nevertheless, the child died on the seventh day. When David heard the news, he washed himself, put on lotion and worshiped the Lord. Many of his advisers were shocked by his response. They proclaimed:
‘We don’t understand you,’ they told him. ‘While the child was still living, you wept and refused to eat. But now that the child is dead, you have stopped your mourning and are eating again.’
22 David replied, ‘I fasted and wept while the child was alive, for I said, ‘Perhaps the Lord will be gracious to me and let the child live.’ 23 But why should I fast when he is dead? Can I bring him back again? I will go to him one day, but he cannot return to me,’ (2 Samuel 12:21-22).
Life After Disappointment
After his son’s death, David and Bathsheba went on to conceive another child, whom God loved and blessed. Additionally, David achieved several victories in his personal and professional life (life as King). God blessed him exponentially. David’s tragedy was not the end of his story. Similarly, our stories do no end after disappointments. We should always remember that the best is always yet to come!
