Letting Go of Shattered Pieces

Shattered pieces, ball-clenched fists,

Who’d have thought it’d come to this?

Tales of broken hearts, disappointments, and unchecked lists,

But to end it there, I’d be remiss,

to explain the travesty caused by a clam-shut fist…

Many of us are so saddled with baggage that we have become desensitized to the loads we are carrying. Oftentimes, in an effort to maintain our daily functionality, we sequester our hurt in the dark crevices of our hearts. The problem is, just like rain could uproot skeletons buried deep beneath the earth’s surface, our tears could also expose our concealed pain. The second issue is that immersed pain usually presents as sharp, unbeveled deposits positioned below the surface. They can cut and bruise others who come close. Additionally, the friction of some of our deepest hurts has already resulted in calluses in once tender places. In some cases, the composite effects of our pain have come at our expense. The tighter we clutch, the deeper our scars. Unfortunately, during our day-to-day activities, we might fail to realize how firm we’ve held on to pain until we finally decide to let it go. Only once we have let go of the shattered pieces of our lives can we truly begin to heal and experience freedom.

…With hope renewed like the dew of a morning mist,

The forces of pain we did resist,

To release the shards of glass from our ball-clenched fist.
